Note to Self

Before you plan a date night with your husband, make sure you fit into something besides yoga pants and a "I'm a pepper" t-shirt.

I am seriously bummed, eight weeks in and I can't fit into a thing. I plan to lose the rest of the baby weight, so I really have no desire to buy something new. But since it's winter, I need jeans and such. I have been wearing the same black preg pants since Baby Z arrived.

The sad thing is that I thought I was looking decent, but now I know how far I really need to go. And while I'm not one of those self-loathing women who hate themselves because they get fat, I am one of those women who likes to be thin. With my boobs, I have to be a small size to look small. Simple fact of life.

So off we go, Lance looking hip, me looking like I'm still pregnant.

Weekend Review

This weekend was fabulous. After a long week during which I barely saw Lance, I decided we needed a night to ourselves. We fed the kids a real meal, (not frozen chicken or mac-n-cheese), and put them to bed. (Not Squirt!) We waited thirty minutes for the young ones to fall asleep then took off for our date. We decided on Bistro Don Camillo since it was close to home and they had recently been on Southbound Food. The food didn't disappoint. We even saw someone there who went after hearing about it on Southbound Food. It was so nice to just sit and relax with my hubby especially since I knew he would be gone for half of the next day.

I was so excited to make it to my Bodystep class on Saturday. I LOVE this class and have missed it so much since the instructor started working a new job during the week. She wants me to come in at 6 in the morning to workout with her, but I'm not sure I have it in me to do that and still deal with the kids ALL. DAY. LONG.

We went to our friends Clint and Shea's 40th birthday party Saturday night. I met Clint and Shea through Lance, and I love that I've managed to become friends with them on my own too. I think they feel the same way. We don't see them nearly as much as we should, but we have managed to catch a few dinners over the past six months and I'm hoping we continue this trend. I really like that they want to hang out with us, and not us and our kids! The party was fabulous with incredible food. Shea's mom is an amazing cook and is always willing to give out recipes, too bad my stuff doesn't come out quite the same!

We had a quiet Father's Day: got up, went to Mass (amazing sermon), then saw this fellow walking through the neighborhood leaving Mass. Can you believe it? The lady we talked to says there is also a male that runs around with this chick!

We spent the afternoon with my dad and brother, my other two favorite dads. The grilling was awesome as usual, and the kids came home exhausted. My dad even shared the special dessert I made for him. He still has a third left for himself, but I know he was watching us to make sure we didn't eat too much.

My highlight of the weekend...My Goose learned how to ride a bike. A girl bike, a midget bike, but nonetheless, A TWO WHEELER! I am so excited for him. He was so proud of himself and so were his brothers.

The Old 97's

I realize the top pictures are essentially the same picture, but I couldn't decide which picture I liked the best. So you're stuck looking at two pictures of me and my Baby. I call Kobra the baby, but Lance is my first Baby. Always!

The Old 97's concert did not disappoint. I loved the venue, and the band was awesome. Period. We even sat with Denise and Wally, longtime fans of my hubby's show. Denise brags about her sons and grandson as much as I do, so we got along really well! I can only say that when we have another kid, Rhett is on the short list for names. I don't think we're having another kid, but just in case, we are covered with another boy name. My only complaint of the night was that they didn't play my favorite song.

Sushi?

I don't eat Sushi, but my husband does. I also don't like tempura, so there aren't a lot of options for me at a sushi restaurant. When Lance wants sushi, I usually suggest that he go with one of his friends for lunch, but last night he was taking me to see a band I have been dying to see so we went to have sushi. He was so excited about showing me this place.

How I wish I ate sushi because I would be at this place at least twice a week. It was so quaint and beautifully decorated. The owners were so nice and engaging. I liked it so much that I'm going back again this week. I ordered the fried soft shell crab. It was awesome, better than the soft shell crab at THE SUSHI place in Houston. From looking at our bank statements, I gather sushi isn't cheap, but this place is. So here is my plug for a really nice sushi place that has really great prices and nice people. Yukino at the corner of Fountainview and Richmond. Go there, you won't be disappointed!

Tonight's The Night!!!

Lance and I are going to see the Old 97's!!! I can't explain how excited I am. I love this band, but have yet to see them perform live. I have attempted to see them three times. The first time, I was celebrating my birthday with two friends at La Strada and was supposed to meet Lance later to go out. I have no recollection of what happened that day except my friend Mark shouting at me to wake up. La Strada will do that to you. The next time I was set to go was on my birthday again. A week and a half after Goose was born. For some reason, Lance didn't think going to a concert that soon after his birth would be smart. Who thinks I sulked about that decision? The last time the Old 97's were in town, I was pregnant with Kobra and huge, but that wasn't going to stop me. So we went to the venue, and the show was sold out. I almost died. I was begging Lance to do something, anything to get me in the show. I have a thing about getting concert tickets ahead of time, as in I never get tickets in advance. Usually, it's a pain, but I manage to get into shows by either sneaking in or paying somebody to let me in.

Tonight there won't be any problems at all. My wonderful husband has already purchased our tickets. I feel like dirt due to allergies, but I don't care. I will be there tonight!

Date Night With Warriors

There is a great exhibit at the Museum of Natural Science called the Terra Cotta Warriors, and Lance and I went to see them last night for our date night. We have been dying to see the Warriors in person since first seeing them on the Amazing Race a few years ago. Since I won't leave the boys for longer than a weekend, this is the closest we'll get to the warriors.

This exhibit is incredible. It is fascinating to think that the first emperor had this built, but also disturbing when you realize that approximately 700,000 convicts or enslaved citizens were used to construct his necropolis which included over 8,000 handmade warriors and other life-size figurines. I strongly recommend visiting this exhibit and buying the $90 coffee table book they have there. Then again, it is easy for me to recommend buying a $90 book when I'm hoping to get it for my birthday so that I won't have to pay for it.
